PRP/PRF Therapy in Durango, CO
West Dental Implants specializes in modern dental technology to ensure our patients receive the best dental care. We offer PRP/PRF, also known as platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin, for use post oral surgery, dental implants, or tooth extractions. You may have heard of this healing process after plastic and reconstructive surgery, but it is also commonly used after dental procedures.
What is platelet-rich plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood product that contains concentrated amounts of platelets. The concentration of platelets in PRP can be up to 10 times greater than normal blood. This means that PRP has more growth factors than whole blood and can stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. Platelets are found naturally in the body and help with clotting. When they come into contact with damaged tissue, they release chemicals that encourage the migration of other cells to the area. These cells then begin to grow and multiply, helping to heal the injured area.
Benefits of PRP
It is safe for dental practice and has not shown any instances of risk of infection, transmission of diseases, or adverse reactions.
It's not time-consuming and can be done during your dental surgery.
PRP is ingrained with growth factors which makes the tissue regeneration process faster.
PRP is easily obtained and handled. It improves the application process of synthetic bone material or bone grafting because it makes them more of a gel-like substance.
PRP is a great alternative for many dental procedures, including cleft lip, tooth extraction defects, cysts removal, and bone grafting.
What is platelet-rich fibrin?
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an advanced form of platelet-rich plasma. It is created by spinning down the patient’s blood to concentrate the platelets. Then the resulting material is placed on a membrane for further processing. After being processed, the membrane is removed from the mixture and set back into the patient’s mouth, where it will serve as a scaffold to encourage cell growth.
Key Benefits of PRF
PRF helps to restore peri-implant bone by attracting osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) to the area of concern. PRF attracts bone-forming cells called osteoblast to the healing area, which helps restore the bone, preserve the alveolar ridge and gum regeneration, and promote new bone generation, improving oral health.
PRF is great for healing and joining the soft tissues that sutures may not be able to heal.
It is a great healing mechanism for oral cancer patients as it can help reconstruct the bony defect after surgery.
PRF is great for preventing and treating infections. It can speed up the healing process with its antibacterial properties.
Why do we use PRP and PRF?
We use PRP and PRF because they contain high concentrations of growth factors that promote cell proliferation and accelerate wound healing. They also have proteins that attract stem cells to the site of injury. Stem cells are immature cells that can develop into any kind of cell in the human body. In addition to promoting healing, these proteins can prevent scarring and reduce inflammation.
